DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to visit his hometown Thakurgaon on a two-day tour beginning September 6.

This will be the President's first visit to his home district since assuming office.

On the first day of the visit, the President will attend a civic reception to be accorded to him as the chief guest, said a Bangabhaban press release.

On the following day, September 7, he will lay the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University.

During his brief visit, the President will also offer prayers at the graves of his parents and exchange views with local people.

According to the programme schedule, the head of state is scheduled to return to Dhaka on September 7.

Meanwhile, extensive preparations are underway across Thakurgaon ahead of the President's visit, with local people expressing enthusiasm over his arrival.

A festive atmosphere has gripped Thakurgaon city and surrounding areas following the announcement of the visit.

"After hearing the news of the President's visit to Thakurgaon, a joyous atmosphere has emerged among local people. Everyone is eagerly waiting to see the President," said Tanvir Hasan Tanu, general secretary of Thakurgaon Press Club.

As part of the preparations to welcome the President, cleaning and painting works are underway along major roads, at intersections and around government offices across the city.
