DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - Social and cultural organisation 'Shubhodaya' today organised a book sale and sapling distribution programme on the Dhaka University (DU) campus marking the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The programme began at 10:30am at the DU Central Library premises, where educational, motivational and history-based books were sold at a symbolic price of Tk 48. Tree saplings were also distributed among the participants.
The initiative drew a large number of students from DU and other educational institutions, young readers and members of the wider student community.
The organisers said the programme was aimed at encouraging the younger generation to develop reading habits, expand their knowledge and gain access to accurate historical information.
Shubhodaya Chief Coordinator and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary Zahid Hasan Shakil said they wanted to go beyond conventional political programmes and undertake activities contributing to the intellectual and mental development of young people.
"To make BNP's 48th founding anniversary memorable, we took this initiative to provide books suitable for young people at a symbolic price of Tk 48. Alongside, we distributed environment-friendly tree saplings," he said.
He stressed the importance of helping young people acquire accurate historical knowledge and develop a habit of reading books.
"We are delighted by the overwhelming response from the students. In the future, Shubhodaya will continue such constructive social activities," he added.
Students attending the programme appreciated the initiative and called for similar educational and social activities to be organised regularly on university campuses.
