DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said an effective legal framework is needed to prevent digital and artificial intelligence (AI) facilitated violence, with the government considering stakeholders’ views in reviewing existing laws and framing new provisions.

“The country has various laws in place to prevent cyber bullying and violence against women through digital platforms. However, the rapid development of AI is creating new types of risks. To address these risks, laws and experiences of different countries are being reviewed. Consultations with stakeholders have also begun on amendments to cyber security-related laws,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing as chief guest a function titled “Dhaka Dialogue: Ending Digital and AI-Facilitated Violence Against Women”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a city hotel.

Highlighting various government initiatives to protect women’s rights and security, Md Asaduzzaman said steps have been taken to introduce a digital system for the registration and documentation of marriage and divorce.

This will help prevent child marriage, forced marriage and various irregularities. At the same time, initiatives to resolve disputes through legal aid and mediation have also been strengthened, the law minister added.

Moderated by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, the dialogue was also addressed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, MP Sanjida Islam Tuli, Women and Children Affairs Ministry Secretary Dr Rowshan Ara Begum, among others.
