DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - A continuing medical education (CME) programme on 'Conditioning for Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation' and a hemato-oncology screening and consultation programme were held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) here today, with experts stressing the need to ensure advanced treatment for patients suffering from complex hematological disorders.

The Department of Hematology of BMU and Medestan Healthcare, along with several reputed organisations, jointly organised the programmes with the slogan "One Day, Two Initiatives" at Shaheed Dr Milton Hall on the BMU campus, said a press release.

BMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr FM Siddiqui was present at the events as the chief guest while BMU Pro-VC (Research and Development) Prof Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader was present as the special guest.

Head of Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Vibhor Sharma presented the keynote paper in the programmes.

At the events, the speakers emphasised ensuring state-of-the-art treatment at BMU for critically ill patients suffering from various hematological or blood-related disorders.

They also expressed strong optimism about ushering in a new era of bone marrow transplantation at BMU, particularly stressing advancing the initiative to establish a bone marrow transplantation center at BMU.

It was informed at the CME programme that, under the hemato-oncology screening and consultation programme, a joint team of five specialist physicians from abroad and experts from the BMU Department of Hematology screened 160 hematological patients in the country today and recorded their medical histories.

The selected patients who are found to require bone marrow transplantation will undergo the procedure at BMU.

Medestan Healthcare Director Dr Maskoor Ahmad Usmani and BMU Hematology Department Chairman Prof Dr Md Rafiquzzaman Khan, Prof Dr Md Abdul Aziz, Prof Dr Amin Lutful Kabir and Prof Dr Md Adnan Hasan Masud were present at the CME programme, among others.
