DHAKA, August 30, 2026 (BSS) – Journalists’ organizations and media outlets accorded a reception to the newly appointed Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury at the Jatiya Press Club here today.
Jatiya Press Club (JPC), Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) were among the organizations.
DUJ Joint General Secretary and its BSS Unit Chief Md Didarul Alam moderated the ceremony while DUJ President Shohidul Islam and it General Secretary Khurshid Alam, JPC General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, former Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) President and BSS City Editor Mursalin Nomani, Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association President AKM Mohsin and its General Secretary Babul Talukdar, former BFUJ Vice-President Modabber Hossain, DUJ Vice-President and Mohona TV Head of News Rashedul Haque, Political Reporters’ Forum (PRF) President Khondkar Kawser Hossain, Independent Television Chief News Editor Mustafa Akmal, and BFUJ Office Secretary Abu Bakar were present.
Expressing profound gratitude to everyone at the reception, Kader Gani Chowdhury said, “I have been given the charge as your representative, so I will do my utmost to ensure that there is no shortfall in the respect you deserve.”
He hoped a humane Bangladesh would be built where no journalist would face repression, exploitation, deprivation or falsehood and media professionals would be able to work independently, and the country would be free from yellow journalism during the tenure of the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government.
“With everyone’s cooperation and advice, we want to restore BSS to its lost glory and elevate it to such a prestigious position that the agency can play an effective role in building a humane society,” he said.
Shahidul Islam said Kader Gani Chowdhury had been a trusted colleague and proven leader of journalists during their 15-year-long struggle for democracy and the rights of journalists.
He expressed hope that under the leadership of such a well-known and dedicated leader, BSS and all institutions representing journalists would achieve greater prosperity and the highest level of dignity.
Khurshid Alam said Kader Gani Chowdhury had led journalists on the streets for many years, and therefore expectations from him were very high.
He urged everyone to extend full cooperation to him in protecting the honor, dignity and reputation of journalists.
Ayub Bhuiyan said for the first time in the history of BSS, the Press Club, BFUJ, DUJ and the Principal Information Officer jointly went to BSS and escorted an MD to his chair—an extraordinary honor.
He expressed hope that the journalist community would extend full cooperation to him in rebuilding the state-run institution, which, he said, had been brought to the brink of destruction over the past several decades, and in setting a unique example.
The reception was coordinated by DUJ Executive Committee members M Mosharraf Hossain, Md. Nizam Uddin (Darvesh Nizam) and Real Roman.
BSS Managing Editor Md. Fazlul Huq, former General Secretary of the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) SM Rashidul Islam, leaders of various journalists’ organizations and media professionals were also present.
