PATUAKHALI, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur today urged people not to blame the current government for the ongoing power and energy crisis in the country, describing it as a national problem.

"There is some crisis in the country's energy and power sectors. This is a national crisis. However, the current government did not create this crisis," he said.

He told media after inspecting the Patuakhali Export Processing Zone (EPZ) project this afternoon.

The state minister urged all including the government and opposition parties to play a responsible role in the post-July period. 

"There could be discussions and criticism on matters of policy. However, no programme should be taken that could put the country in a major crisis," he said.

He expressed hope that it would be possible to take the country to a standard position over the next five years.

He said, "Everything might not be completely changed in five years, but the country could be taken a long way towards the right destination."

On combating corruption and ensuring accountability, Nur said the government has been taking a strict stance against corruption. 

He said the government's main objective is to take services to citizens' doorsteps and ensure people's welfare were. 

"A cell had been formed at the Prime Minister's Office to assess the necessity of various development projects undertaken at the local level. Decisions on taking up projects were being made as necessary after scrutiny," he added.
