BAGERHAT, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - BNP-nominated candidate Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain today pledged to build a modern Bagerhat free from extortion, terrorism and drug abuse if elected to parliament.

He made the commitment while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with journalists from Bagerhat, Kachua and Chulkathi, held at his residence on Thursday night.

"The people of Bagerhat have long been victims of extortion, terrorism and drugs. If elected, a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against these evils through the establishment of a governance system based on law and justice," Barrister Zakir said.

He also emphasized the importance of promoting Bagerhat's rich historical and archaeological heritage, particularly the monuments associated with Khan Jahan Ali, on the global stage.

Expressing optimism about regional development, he said the implementation of the Khan Jahan Ali Airport would open new horizons for communication and economic growth in the southern region.

Barrister Zakir said his experience as a lawyer would enable him to contribute effectively to lawmaking in the public interest.

"If elected as a member of parliament, I will play an active role in drafting and reforming laws by applying my legal expertise and personal commitment to public welfare," he added.

The meeting was attended by Bagerhat Press Club President Sheikh Abu Sayeed Shunu, General Secretary Hedayetul Islam Liton, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) representative Azad Ruhul Amin, Khanjahan Newspaper Editor Sheikh Abu Sayeed and journalists from various media outlets.
