DHAKA, Mar 12, 2026 (BSS) – The Election Commission (EC) will start sending postal ballots today to expatriate voters who registered to cast their votes by post in the elections of Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 constituencies.
Team Leader of the OCV-SDI project on expatriate voter registration Salim Ahmad Khan told BSS today that the postal ballots would be sent to 1,281 registered expatriate voters of Bogura-6 constituency.
Besides, the process has started to send postal ballots to 383 registered expatriate voters of Sherpur-3 constituency, he said, adding that preparations are underway to send postal ballots to all registered expatriate voters of the two constituencies today.
In this regard, EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told journalists on Wednesday that there will be two types of postal ballots – OCV for expatriate voters and ICV for voters residing in the country.
The OCV ballots for expatriate voters will start being sent from Thursday, while the process of receiving postal votes inside the country will begin around March 23 or 24.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, voting in the by-election to Bogura-6 constituency and the general election to Sherpur-3 constituency will be held on April 9, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm uninterrupted through ballot papers using transparent ballot boxes.
According to information provided by the Election Commission, five candidates have submitted nomination papers for the general election in Sherpur-3 parliamentary constituency. Of them, Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel has submitted nomination papers from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Md. Masudur Rahman has submitted nomination papers from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
In addition, one candidate each from Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), as well as one independent candidate, have submitted nomination papers.
After completion of the scrutiny process by the returning officer, none of the candidates filed any appeal. As a result, all of them remain valid candidates.
Besides for the vacant Bogura-6 constituency, three candidates have submitted nomination papers for the election. Among them, Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha has submitted nomination papers from BNP, while Md. Abidur Rahman has submitted nomination papers from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
A candidate from Bangladesh Development Party has also submitted nomination papers for the election.
In this constituency as well, no appeal was filed after completion of the scrutiny by the returning officer, leaving all the candidates as valid contestants.
According to the EC schedule, the last date for withdrawal of candidature for the Sherpur-3 and Bogura-6 elections is March 14, while election symbols will be allotted on March 15.
