CHANDPUR, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) - Deposits of 25 candidates out of 36 contestants in five parliamentary constituencies of the district were forfeited in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to official results.
Under election rules, a candidate must secure at least one-eighth (12 percent) of the valid votes in a constituency to retain the deposit.
Following publication of the results, it was found that 25 candidates failed to meet the required threshold. Several candidates received fewer than 1,000 votes.
According to the latest data from the Election Commission, Chandpur district has 23,31,195 registered voters, with a turnout of 53.05 percent in the election.
Four candidates of Islami Andolan Bangladesh lost their deposits. Chairman of Islamic Front Bangladesh Syed Mohammad Bahadur Shah Mojaddidi also forfeited his deposit.
Jatiya Party, once a major ruling party, contested in four constituencies and secured a total of 3,746 votes. Gono Forum received 876 votes across three constituencies.
The Islamic Movement, which recently left its alliance with Jamaat, obtained 38,630 votes in four seats.
