THAKURGAON, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the party advocates for 'yes' vote in the referendum, scheduled for February 12.

"BNP is in favor of a yes vote in the referendum. It has always been in favor of reforms through its 31-point charter," said Fakhrul, also the BNP-nominated candidate for Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election to be held on the same day.

He made the remarks at a roadside meeting during his election campaign at Jathibhanga this evening. District and local BNP leaders spoke at the programme, presided over by local BNP leader Joynal Abedin.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "You remember the 1971 Liberation War. This land is a witness to the barbaric genocide carried out in 1971. The Pakistani forces killed hundreds of people, and today those who were collaborators of the Pakistani army have come to you to ask for votes. We cannot vote for someone who has not recognized our independence."

He said the 'family card' introduced by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will empower women.

"With this card, mothers and sisters will largely be able to meet daily needs of families. If BNP comes to power, 15 million people will be employed within 18 months," added the veteran BNP leader.

Using the 'farmer card', Fakhrul noted farmers will be able to avail various facilities related to agriculture.

He also pledged easy and affordable healthcare for all through a 'health card' if voted to power.

"Thakurgaon is an agriculturally rich district. The land produces a variety of vegetables and fruits including mango, litchi, orange and malta. We want to install cold storages here to preserve vegetables and fruits," said Mirza Fakhrul.
