DHAKA, Jan 22, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today pledged that if elected, he would take measures to eliminate terrorism, drugs and extortion from society.

“We must eliminate terrorism, drugs and extortion from the area,” he said.

Mirza Abbas made the remarks while addressing a roadside rally at Shantibagh in the capital this afternoon as part of his election campaign for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the forthcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

He expressed optimism that the upcoming national parliamentary election would be held in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere with the participation of all political parties.

“Whenever we have participated in elections, those were held in peaceful environments. Only during the Awami League’s tenure  we were deprived of the opportunity to take part in elections,” he said.

Earlier in the day, he formally inaugurated his election campaign by arranging a doa-mahfil at his residence here.

The BNP leader said he would work to ensure a democratic political environment alongside social and economic development and enhanced security for the residents of his constituency.
