CHATTOGRAM, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that if the BNP is voted to power, meaningful initiatives will be taken to turn Chattogram into a business hub of South and South-East Asia by upgrading the country’s prime seaport — Chattogram Port — and Shah Amanat International Airport.
“We have a plan centering Chattogram Port and the adjacent maritime territory to turn the area into a vibrant business zone — not only for Bangladesh, but also as a focal point for other countries in the region,” he said while addressing election campaign rallies at different places under Gosaildanga ward today.
Gosaildanga falls under the Chattogram-11 constituency (Bandar–Patenga), from where Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a stalwart of the BNP’s central leadership, is contesting the upcoming parliamentary election as the party nominee.
From morning till noon, he carried out hectic campaigning in the Nimtala and Khalpar areas under Gosaildanga ward and sought votes in favour of the party’s electoral symbol, the Sheaf of Paddy.
Accompanied by local BNP leaders and supporters, he was welcomed by a large number of people from different walks of life, and Khasru exchanged greetings with them.
Addressing the rallies, Amir Khasru said all necessary facilities to facilitate trade and investment would be ensured at Chattogram Port, the Customs House, container depots and in shipping services so that the area could emerge as a leading business centre for South and South-East Asian countries.
He said the BNP does not believe in only talks or false commitments; rather, the party has a record of serving the people and the country by fulfilling its promises when it was in power.
He called upon BNP leaders and activists, as well as voters present at the rallies, to remember that the upcoming election is not merely an election, but part of a broader struggle to uphold democracy and establish people’s voting rights.
He urged all to maintain order and discipline and to remain united, avoiding any path that could create disorder or unrest.
Joint Convener of the city unit BNP Kazi Belal, and BNP leaders Md Musa, Md Sabur, Nurul Amin, Md Harun, Humayun Kabir Sohel, Abu Sayeed Harun, Md Shah Jahan and Md Nezam Uddin, among others, were present.
