DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS)- Monirul Islam, representative of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and former assistant legal affairs secretary of Dhaka City (North) Jubo Dal, has received the party’s election symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ (Dhaner Shish) for the Dhaka-17 constituency on behalf of Tarique Rahman.

He received the symbol allocation letter from Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury at the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer in Segunbagicha this afternoon. 

After receiving the symbol, Monirul Islam told the media, “For 17 long years, many, including the youth of Bangladesh, could not participate in voting or exercise their right to vote. Today an opportunity has arisen for the people to establish democracy. I hope that everyone will seize this opportunity.”

“The Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer have allocated the symbol to us, and we have accepted it. He has instructed all candidates to maintain cordial behavior with each other and conduct election activities in compliance with the electoral code of conduct,” he added. 

On behalf of Tarique Rahman, Monirul Islam conveyed a message to the voters, saying, “From the youth of Dhaka-17 constituency to everyone else, all are eagerly waiting to vote for Tarique Rahman.”
