DHAKA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks has expressed satisfaction over the overall preparations undertaken by the Election Commission (EC) for the upcoming national election and referendum, EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said.

Swedish Ambassador expressed the satisfaction as he paid a courtesy call on Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and four Election Commissioners at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon.

While briefing the journalists after the meeting, Akhtar Ahmed said ambassador came to learn about the overall situation and preparations for the elections, including party registration, appeals, and technical aspects of postal voting, the law and order situation, and how the commission is working to prevent misinformation. 

After being apprised of all these issues, the ambassador expressed his satisfaction, he said.

First Secretary (Human Rights, Democracy and Gender Equality) of the Swedish Embassy, as well as EC’s senior officials were present.
