SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - The 3rd session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was prorogued today after 9 sittings, which began on August 27.

Jatiya Sangsad Leader Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered his valedictory speech at the closing of the session. Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

Before reading out the prorogation order of the President, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, thanked the Almighty Allah for the smooth and successful completion of the second session and expressed gratitude to all members for their active participation and cooperation in discussions on matters of national importance and in advancing parliamentary proceedings.

He said, "Differences of opinion constitute a normal feature of a democratic parliamentary system," urging lawmakers to maintain mutual respect and a cordial atmosphere while expressing differing views and actively participating in parliamentary proceedings as such practices strengthen democratic culture.

Referring to the Leader of the House's call to all sides to refrain from the culture of abusive language, the Speaker expressed hope that all members would uphold parliamentary rules, traditions and practices in future sessions.

He said all members should play responsible roles by placing the interests of the country at the highest priority.

The Speaker said the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad began on August 27, 2026. A total of nine sittings were held during the session. Six bills were introduced and six bills were passed.

Besides legislation, 35 parliamentary committees were formed and reconstituted during the session, while one special committee was also reconstituted.

Members submitted notices on important issues under various provisions of the Rules of Procedure, and the notices were disposed of in accordance with the rules, he added.

The Speaker said members submitted a total of 144 questions for answers from the Prime Minister during the session. The Prime Minister had already answered 15 of those questions.

A total of 2,676 questions were submitted for answers from ministers of different ministries, of which the ministers answered 1,678 during the session.

He thanked Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his all-out cooperation in conducting parliamentary proceedings. He also thanked the Leader of the Opposition, Cabinet members, Chief Whips, the Chief Whip of the Opposition and all members of Parliament.

The Speaker expressed his gratitude to Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal and all members of the Panel of Chairmen, saying their wisdom, experience and cooperation helped conduct the session smoothly.

He also thanked the Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat and all officials and employees, officials and employees of various ministries, divisions and offices, law enforcement agencies, doctors, fire service personnel, the Public Works Department, electricity and telephone service providers and other institutions involved in providing services.

He thanked journalists and representatives of national dailies, news agencies, Bangladesh Sangsad Television, Bangladesh Television and private television channels and other media outlets for their coverage.

The Speaker said collective responsibility remains crucial for the development and consolidation of parliamentary democracy. He expressed hope that lawmakers would reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people by maintaining mutual respect, tolerance and cordiality and respecting parliamentary procedures.

He then read out the order of President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir regarding the prorogation of the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

According to the order, issued under Article 72(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh, the President declared the ongoing third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad prorogued after the sitting today.
