SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Four more parliamentary standing committees were constituted today to complete the formation of all 50 parliamentary bodies of the current 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The four newly constituted committees are related to the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Public Administration and the Public Undertakings.
Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni proposed the formation of the one committee and reconstitution of the two existing committees. His proposals were later passed by voice votes in the House.
Md Ashraf Uddin (Narsingdi-5) was made the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defense, while Miah Nuruddin Ahmad Apu (Shariatpur-3) is the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
Sayeed Ahmed (Shariatpur-1) was made the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Public Administration and Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni (Barguna-2) is the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertakings.
Besides, some existing parliamentary committees were reconstituted without bringing any change to the chief of the parliamentary bodies.
The reconstituted parliamentary committees include Private Member's Bills and Resolutions, the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Of them, the Committee on Private Member's Bills and Resolutions is headed by opposition Jamaat-E-Islami lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury (Chattogram-15).
There are 50 parliamentary committees in the Jatiya Sangsad, including 39 standing committees on ministries and 11 subject-based committees.
