DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Education of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held at the Parliament Bhaban complex here today.

The meeting was chaired by committee Chairman Md. Selim Bhuiyan while committee members Reza Kabiria, Md. Selimuzzaman Molla, Md. Jahangir Ali Mia, Tahsina Rushdi, Bithika Binte Hossain, Md. Mujibur Rahman and Ataur Rahman Mujahid attended it.

The meeting called upon all concerned to take necessary measures to modernize the education system and raise it to the international standards with the goal of building a knowledge-based, corruption-free and ethical nation.

The committee also expressed special gratitude to the Prime Minister for taking steps, under special directives, to provide retirement and welfare benefits to 25,000 retired teachers.

The meeting further noted that the incumbent government has given the highest priority to education and allocated the highest-ever budget to the sector this year.

The committee recommended that educational institutions that had fulfilled all the necessary conditions for inclusion under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme but were deprived of the benefit due to discrimination of last government’s tenure should be considered for the MPO enlistment with due importance.

The committee also placed special emphasis on conducting on-site inspections by the Parliamentary Standing Committee whenever allegations of irregularities or corruption arise at the National University, education boards or other institutions under the education ministry, so that such allegations can be properly investigated.

The meeting was attended by the Education Secretary, senior officials concerned and officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
