BANDARBAN, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - A three-day programme featuring various religious and auspicious activities has begun in Bandarban to celebrate Lord Shri Krishna’s Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, marking the birth of Lord Krishna.

The three-day celebration formally began today at Bandarban Rajarmath with the hoisting of the national flag and religious flags.

Shri Srimat Swami Abhedananda Brahmachari Maharaj, head of the Bangalhalia Jyotishwar Vedanta Math and Mission, attended the opening ceremony.

A ceremonial lamp was then lit at the festival venue. This was followed by a recitation from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by priest Prodarshan Debnath.

President of the Bandarban Sarbajanin Central Durga Temple Biplab Kanti Das, President of the Bandarban Central Shri Shri Janmashtami Festival Celebration Committee Rittal Kanti Biswas, General Secretary Alok Dhar, and presidents, general secretaries and Hindu community leaders from various temples across the district were present on the occasion.
The organizers said that during the three-day auspicious celebration, mahaprasad will be distributed every afternoon and night, while religious discussions will be held in the afternoon each day. 

The mahanam yajna (chanting of the holy name) will begin early Friday. A colourful procession will also be brought out on the same day to mark Janmashtami.

The three-day colourful Janmashtami festival in Bandarban will conclude on Saturday with the completion of the mahanam yajna in the early morning, a procession through the town, and an exchange of greetings.
