Smuggled goods worth Tk 3cr seized in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS)- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large consignment of Indian sarees in a covered van in Shantiganj upazila of the district early this morning.

The seizure included 2,684 pieces of various types of high-quality Indian sarees, with an estimated seizure value of Taka 3.58 crore.

The operation was conducted around 3:40 am based on intelligence information. A special operation team of Sunamganj Battalion (28 BGB) searched an abandoned covered van in the Shantiganj area and recovered the sarees from inside.

According to a BGB press release issued at noon, the seized sarees were believed to have been smuggled into Bangladesh through illegal routes.

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Hridoy and Assistant Director of BGB-28 Battalion Md Selim Rana, along with 10 BGB personnel, took part in the operation.

Lieutenant Colonel A K M Zakaria Kadir, commanding officer of Sunamganj Battalion (28 BGB), said BGB's operations and intelligence activities would continue in line with instructions from its headquarters to maintain border security and prevent revenue losses caused by the smuggling of illegal Indian goods into the country.

The seized Indian sarees are in the process of being handed over to the Customs Office in Sunamganj.
