JAMALPUR, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A cultural competition marking Nazrul Year 2026-27 was inaugurated at the Nazrul Islam Babu Auditorium of the District Shilpakala Academy in Jamalpur town today. District BNP General Secretary lawmaker Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest.

He said cultural activities play an important role in the development of society and stressed the importance of promoting the ideals of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

"Nazrul taught us the values of harmony and showed us how to overcome obstacles to establish peace in society," he said, calling on people to study Nazrul's literature to help build a non-communal society. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali chaired the programme.

Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Azizul Haque, Additional Superintendent of Police Rakibul Islam, former head of the Bangla Department at Government Ashek Mahmud College AKM Fazlul Haque and District JASAS President Rejvi Al Jamali Ranju also spoke at the event.
