Two to die, 3 get life imprisonment in Bogura murder case

BOGURA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two people to death and three others to life imprisonment for killing businessman Ragibul Hasan Hridoy after he allegedly refused to pay extortion money.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-5 Kausik Ahmed Khandokar delivered the verdict at 11.30am in presence of the convicts.

The death-row convicts are Saddam Hossain Swadhin and Md Rabbi. The three others-Ashik, Shakil and Matin-were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court also fined each of the five convicts Taka 50,000. Half of the fine money will be given to Hridoy's child, while the remaining half will be deposited with the state treasury, according to the court order.

According to prosecution, the incident took place on the evening of July 20, 2021 at Hridoy's business establishment in Kaipara Pukurpar area of Bogura city.

The accused allegedly went to the business premises and demanded extortion money. After Hridoy refused to pay, they entered the establishment and attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

When Hridoy's father, Mamunur Rashid, intervened to save his son, he was also attacked and injured. Hridoy was later taken to hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, Hridoy's mother, Ayesha Siddika, filed a murder case. After investigation and examination of witnesses and evidence, the court delivered the verdict.

Public prosecutor of the court confirmed the matter.
