CHATTOGRAM, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined a dairy company Tk 4.5 lakh and temporarily sealed its operations in Chattogram for using the BSTI logo without approval, altering the expiry date of expired milk powder and producing food under unhygienic conditions.

The action was taken on Sunday at Chattogram Dairy Food Industries in Agrabad during an inspection led by the Chattogram Divisional Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department.

Inspectors found the BSTI logo displayed on packets of 'Dona Instant Full Cream Milk Powder' despite the product lacking the required BSTI approval.

They also found insects in the storage area and other evidence of unhygienic production and storage conditions.

The inspection further uncovered evidence that the company was repackaging expired powdered milk and changing the expiry date before reselling it.

In view of the violations, the department fined the company Tk 450,000 and sealed its premises temporarily in the interest of public safety.

During the same drive, Janata Pharmacy, located beside Mother and Child Hospital, was fined Tk 10,000 for selling expired and unapproved medicines.

 Burger Bite, a fast-food outlet, was fined Tk 4,000 for preparing food in an unclean environment.

Faiz Ullah, deputy director of the Chattogram divisional office, said violations involving consumer health and safety would not be tolerated.

He said changing expiry dates, adulterating products and using organisational logos without authorisation were serious offences, adding that such drives would continue regularly to ensure food safety and protect consumers.
