RAJSHAHI, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS)- A free vaccination programme was held today to protect the health of livestock belonging to farmers and households in the remote Char Majhardia area of Haripur Union under Paba Upazila of Rajshahi.

Around 3,000 cows were vaccinated during the day-long programme, which began at 11am.

The programme was organized with the initiative and self-financing of Rajshahi District Jubodal member Faridul Islam Shahebzada.

Paba-Mohanpur constituency lawmaker and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon inaugurated the programme.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the MP said Char Majhardia is a remote area where thousands of cows, goats and buffaloes are reared.

"Such initiatives are important for ensuring the care and health protection of livestock," he said, adding that the vaccination programme was arranged through the personal initiative and funding of Faridul Islam Shahebzada, son of former chairman Nazrul Islam Naju.

He said a number of cows died from diseases in the area a few days ago, causing significant financial losses to local households.

"Regular measures will be taken through the Livestock Department so that no livestock dies without treatment in the future," he said.

Following the inauguration, livestock vaccination began across the area through four teams.

Sajjad Hossain, president of Ward No. 1 BNP of Haripur Union, presided over the program, while Dr Sohrab Khan, Veterinary Surgeon of Paba Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital, attended as the chief guest.

Officials and staff concerned, local dignitaries, and leaders and activists of BNP and its associate organizations were also present.
