NETROKONA, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - The body of a one-and-a-half-year-old child was recovered from the Kangsha River in the Jaria Purba Para area under Purbadhala upazila of the district this morning about 18 hours as soon as she went missing after falling into the river.
Sadia Akhtar was the daughter of Mosharraf Hossain of Gangger Bera village under Ghagra Union.
According to fire service, Sadia’s grandmother left Sadia sitting on the riverbank while she was washing clothes. At one point, the child fell into the river.
After family members failed to find her despite searching, they informed the Purbadhala Fire Service. A team of divers conducted a rescue operation until 7pm on Friday but could not locate the child.
Today around 8am, locals spotted the body in the river about five kilometres from the site from where she went missing and informed the police.
Afterward, police, Fire Service personnel and the family members went to the spot and recovered Sadia’s body.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said police visited the scene.
As the family had no complaint, the body was handed over to the relatives. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed with the police station, he said.
