FARIDPUR, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - A 12-year-old boy named Jahidul was killed after falling from the roof of a moving train in Boalmari upazila of the district.
Another teenager, Md. Sajedul Sheikh, was seriously injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 pm on Thursday near Chatul High School in Chatul union of the upazila, involving the Bhatiapara Express, which was travelling towards Rajbari after leaving Bhatiapara.
The deceased, Jahidul, was the son of Milton Sheikh of Ichakhali village in Moyna union of the upazila. The injured Sajedul Sheikh is the son of Kaiyum Sheikh of the same village.
Eyewitnesses said the two teenagers had climbed onto the roof of the Bhatiapara Express and were running around.
Near Chatul High School, they collided with a branch of a jackfruit tree standing beside the railway line. As a result, both of them were thrown off the roof of the train.
Jahidul was run over by the train and died on the spot. Local people rescued Sajedul in a seriously injured condition and took him to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex.
Dr Tamal Krishna Roy, an emergency department physician at the health complex, said that Sajedul was given primary treatment and later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment. However, his condition remains critical.
Boalmari Fire Service Station Master Royal Ahmed said that, upon receiving the information, firefighters went to the scene, recovered the body of the deceased and handed it over to the police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalmari Police Station Mostafizur Rahman confirmed it saying Rajbari Railway Police Station had been informed after the body was recovered and that they would take further legal action.
