RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - District Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested two youths with six kilograms of cannabis and seized a motorcycle during an anti-narcotics drive in Godagari upazila of the district.

The arrested are Rubel Hossain, 28, son of late Monirul Islam of Azmatpur Refugeepara village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj and Jasim Ali, 23, son of Mozammel Haque of Ekbarpur Jabbar Bitola village in the same upazila.

Police said a DB team was conducting an anti-narcotics and anti-smuggling operation in and around Rajabari Haat under Godagari Police Station around 12:25pm today.

Acting on a tip-off, the team learned that two people were waiting on a paved road in front of a mango orchard in Choyghati village with cannabis for sale, using a motorcycle.

The DB team subsequently conducted a raid at the spot. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the two suspects attempted to flee on an unregistered Apache TVS 150cc motorcycle, but police managed to detain them.

A search of a white plastic shopping bag in their possession led to the recovery of six kilograms of cannabis. Police also seized the motorcycle allegedly used to transport the drugs.

According to Rajshahi District Police, Rubel Hossain has several drug-related cases pending against him with different police stations in Rajshahi Metropolitan, Rajshahi district, Habiganj, Bogura, Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj.

A case has been filed against the two arrested persons with Godagari Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, police said.
