NAOGAON, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - A joint Namaz-e-Janaza was held today for seven workers from Atrai upazila of Naogaon who were killed in a fire at a sofa manufacturing factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Four of the deceased, including two brothers, were later buried side by side in their village.

The janaza was held at 10:15 am at the Molla Azad Memorial College ground in Atrai.

The bodies of nine identified victims of the Riyadh fire arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 4:00 pm on Thursday. Of them, seven were from Atrai and their bodies reached the upazila around 1:30 am with the assistance of the local administration.

Naogaon-6 lawmaker Rezaul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Monirul Islam, Atrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Alam and local residents attended the janaza.

Following the prayers, the bodies were handed over to the deceased workers' relatives for burial.

Four bodies, including those of brothers Mohon and Sumon, were taken to Gondogohali village, where four graves had been prepared side by side. All four had been working at the same factory in Saudi Arabia.

Moyna Khatun, mother of Mohon and Sumon, said, "Everything in my world is gone. I have nothing left. My husband is also disabled."

A total of 16 workers were killed in the August 9 fire in Riyadh, including 12 from Naogaon. Seven bodies have so far been repatriated, while the return of the remaining five Naogaon victims is pending due to complications in fingerprint identification.

Lawmaker Rezaul Islam said the bereaved families had received financial assistance from the Wage Earners' Welfare Board and would continue to receive government support.

He said efforts were also underway to repatriate the remaining bodies as soon as possible.
