COX'S BAZAR, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - Police today recovered the body of a tourist who went missing while taking a bath at Cox's Bazar sea on Wednesday. 

The body was recovered from the beach at Sonadia Island in Maheshkhali upazila of the district at around 7am. The area is located about nine kilometres from the place where he went missing on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Khan, 23, an employee of a private company named ZKP in Dhaka. 

He went missing after being swept away by seawater while taking a bath at Sugandha point at around 2:15 pm on Wednesday. 

Another tourist, Md. Yasin, 25, also drowned in the sea along with Ibrahim on Wednesday. However, lifeguards recovered Yasin's body the same day. Ibrahim and Yasin were cousins.

Police and lifeguard personnel said that five people, including Ibrahim and Yasin, had entered the sea for a bath at Sugandha Beach. 

At one point, a large wave swept Ibrahim Khan and Yasin away. 

Members of Sea-Safe Lifeguard later conducted a search and rescued Md. Yasin Khan, taking him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Mahbubur Rahman, supervisor of the beach workers deployed by the district administration at Cox's Bazar beach, said that a search for Ibrahim had been underway since he went missing. 

At around 6:00 am on Friday, Ibrahim's body was seen floating in the tidal water. Local residents spotted the body and informed the police. Later, police from Maheshkhali Police Station went to the site, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said that the body of the missing tourist Ibrahim had been kept at the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. 

An autopsy will be conducted, after which the body will be handed over to the family, he added.
