RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - A timely initiative has been taken to restore the heritage of Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo by adding new animals and birds and modernizing its facilities.
Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton and Shahjaman Khan, Director General (DG) of the Department of Livestock Services, visited Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo to explore ways to make it more attractive by adding new animals and birds and modernizing its facilities.
This morning, during their visit to Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo, they toured various parts of the zoo and discussed the potential addition of animals and birds, infrastructural development and modernization.
During the visit, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton told journalists that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had given him the responsibility of ensuring civic services.
“We are working to implement the Prime Minister’s directives. Since I took charge, city residents have been demanding the restoration of the heritage of Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo.”
He said, “In response to the demands of city residents, I have raised the issue of adding new animals and birds and modernizing Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.”
As part of the initiative, the State Minister has already visited the zoo. Today, senior officials, including the Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, visited the zoo.
“We hope that, through this initiative, activities to give a new look to Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo will progress further,” he said.
Director General (DG) of the Department of Livestock Services Shahjaman Khan said that since taking charge, Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton had been making efforts to add new animals and birds and modernize Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo.
“In this context, we have come to visit the zoo with a team,” he said.
He further said, “Our team will conduct a feasibility study. Based on the study, advice will be given on how to develop the zoo to make it more attractive, modern and visitor-friendly.”
During the visit, Director (Planning) of the Department of Livestock Services Dr Bazlur Rahman, Project Director Dr Safiqur Rahman, Director of the Department of Livestock Services, Rajshahi Division, Dr Ananda Kumar Adhikari, Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Rezaul Karim, Superintending Engineer Ahmad Al Moin and other senior officials of the Department of Livestock Services and Rajshahi City Corporation were present.
