CHATTOGRAM, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) – Two eight-year-old madrasa students drowned in a pond in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram tooday.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm in Ekkhulia village of Ward No. 8 under Sundarpur Union.

The deceased were Jahid, son of Jahangir Alam, and Tasin, son of Abdur Shukkur, both residents of Ekkhulia village. They were students of Ekkhulia Darus Sunnah Nurani Madrasa.

According to local sources, the two children returned home after their madrasa closed at noon. Later, they went with two friends to a nearby pond to bathe. None of the four children knew how to swim.

At one point, the four children began to sink and cried out for help. Two managed to get out of the water, while Jahid and Tasin drowned.

Hearing their cries, a local man, Yakub, jumped into the pond and rescued the two children. They were immediately taken to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

Niranjan Sarkar, a health assistant at the emergency department of the health complex, confirmed the deaths, saying the two children were brought to the hospital after drowning and were pronounced dead by the attending.
