KHULNA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - Computers, sewing machines and food carts were distributed among beneficiaries under the "Livelihood Support for Urban Poor Communities in Bangladesh" project implemented under the supervision of Khulna City Corporation (KCC).

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju distributed the items among the beneficiaries as the chief guest at a programme held at the ground floor premises of Nagar Bhaban here at 3pm today.

The initiative was taken to increase the income of poor families, create self-employment opportunities and improve their living standards with technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financial support from the Global Development Fund (GDF) and China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

Congratulating officials of the donor agencies for taking the humanitarian initiative for poor families in Khulna city, the KCC administrator said the effort to make disadvantaged people self-reliant and alleviate poverty was highly commendable.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the distributed items properly to provide their children with a better environment and maintain family bonds, saying their proper use could change the course of their lives.

At the programme, 34 members of 19 Community Development Committees (CDCs) from 17 wards of the city received computer sets, while 43 received sewing machines and 64 received food carts.

KCC Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar presided over the programme.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Engineer Mir Mosharraf Hossain, UNDP Senior Programme Specialist in Dhaka Tanvir Mahmud, International Project Manager Yoom Pradhan and Project Analyst SM Abdullah Al Masum addressed the programme as special guests.

Among others, CDC Cluster Leader Rokeya Khalifa and beneficiary Salha Begum also spoke.
