NETROKONA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court today seized 39 sand-laden boats and around 1,000 cubic feet of sand and sentenced a youth to 15 days' imprisonment for illegal sand extraction in Kalmakanda upazila of the district.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Samsuzzaman Asif conducted the daylong drive from this morning to noon in the Saterhati Mahadeo area under Rangchhati Union in the upazila with the assistance of police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members.
During the drive, Md Najmul Miah, 24, son of Md Gias Uddin of Nayanagar village, was sentenced to 15 days' simple imprisonment for his involvement in illegal sand extraction.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station Md Mostafizur Rahman said Najmul was sent to Netrokona District Jail this afternoon.
According to mobile court sources, around 1,000 cubic feet of sand kept for illegal extraction and transportation was seized and later dumped into the river. Besides, the engines of 39 boats used for carrying sand were rendered inoperative, and the boats were submerged in the river.
The mobile court also directed the OC of Kalmakanda Police Station to file a regular case against around 100 unidentified people involved in illegal sand extraction.
