BOGURA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested bus driver Md Nesarul Islam, 45, the prime accused in a case filed over the deaths of seven day laborers and injuries to 14 others after a bus ran over them while they were standing beside a highway at Erulia area of the district.
A team of RAB-12, Bogura, arrested Nesarul from a house in Dauhpara area of Shibganj upazila at around 4:25 am, according to a press release of RAB-12.
Nesarul is the son of late Ayaz Uddin of Agunia Tair village under Sonatala upazila of the district.
According to the press release, the incident occurred at around 6:00 am on August 7 when a bus of Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan, bearing number Dhaka Metro-B-15-0131, was being driven recklessly at high speed and ran onto the pavement in front of a primary school near Erulia Bazar, hitting the day laborers who were waiting there.
Several people were critically injured in the incident. Local residents rescued the injured and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors on duty declared seven people dead. Fourteen others sustained serious injuries and were receiving treatment at the hospital. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
A case was filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station on August 8 in connection with the incident.
RAB launched a shadow investigation following the filing of the case.
Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a raid in a house at Dauhpara under Shibganj Police Station and arrested Nesarul.
RAB-12 Company Commander Squadron Leader Firoz Ahmed told BSS that the accused had been handed over to Sadar Thana for further legal action.
