COX'S BAZAR, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 672,000 yaba tablets during a special operation in the Ukhia border area of Cox's Bazar last night.
Acting on intelligence information, a joint special patrol team of Balukhali and Palongkhali Border Outposts under Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) took positions in the Anjumanpara and Faisakhali areas around 9:10pm, said a BGB press release issued this morning.
At about 9:30pm, the patrol team spotted seven to eight suspected individuals entering Bangladesh from Myanmar using a thermal imaging device.
The suspects fled towards a nearby village after sensing the presence of the patrol team, leaving behind five sacks.
The BGB members subsequently recovered 672,000 yaba tablets from the sacks.
The tablets were packed in blue airtight packets and wrapped in khaki-coloured packages, the release said.
Ukhia Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam said BGB members conducted further operations in the area to arrest the fleeing suspects, but none was detained.
