KURIGRAM, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - A farmer died after being electrocuted while connecting an electric irrigation pump to water his farmland in Bhurungamari upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Alam, 45, son of late Gonjer Ali Akand of Uttar Bharater Chhara area under Bangasonahat union of the upazila.

Police said Ashraful went to his farmland around noon to connect the electrical line to an irrigation pump. He was electrocuted accidentally and sustained critical injuries.

Family members rescued him and rushed him to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.

Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azim Uddin confirmed the matter.
