RAJSHAHI, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS)- Speakers at a meeting emphasized making the city's waste management more effective and environmentally friendly besides tackling the adverse effects of climate change.
In this context, they also underlined the need for increasing civic engagement and making urban development activities more dynamic under the leadership of youth.
The discussion highlighted the importance of advancing the City Youth Council as a key partner in creating awareness on climate change and waste management to bring positive change for the citizens.
Experts and stakeholders made these remarks while addressing an 'orientation on urban climate and waste justice initiative advocacy meeting with Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC)'.
SERAC Bangladesh organized the event today in the meeting room of Nagar Bhaban with the aim of raising awareness on urban climate and waste management to promote sustainable urban development.
The Chief Guest at the meeting was the RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, saying that an initiative has been taken to build playgrounds in the metropolis to build a drug-free youth society and to develop sports.
Parks will be built for senior citizens. Initiatives are being taken to create employment by exporting manpower to Japan.
A new project is being undertaken to improve waste management in the city.
He expressed his commitment to stand by all initiatives of SERAC Bangladesh.
The event was presided over by RCC Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim.
The project work plan was presented by the Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh S M Shaikat, while Deputy Director Selim Mia delivered the welcome speech.
The overall activities of the project were presented by Lutfa Pathan, Project Manager of SERAC-Bangladesh.
Later, open discussion and exchange of views session, opinions were presented on various challenges of urban climate and waste management.
Other officials of the project and members of the City Youth Council participated in the meeting.
