MYMENSINGH, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Two children drowned in a pond at Sateropara village in Trishal upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Md. Mashrafi, 5, son of Md. Ashraful Islam and Farhan, 3, son of Tarikul Islam, both residents of Sateropara village. The two children were cousins and lived in neighboring houses.

Officer-in-Charge of Trishal Police Station Md. Mansur Ahmed confirmed the matter.

According to the OC, the two children were playing near their homes when they apparently entered the pond with mud-covered bodies and drowned.

When family members began searching for the children, they spotted one of them floating in the pond. Local residents then searched the water and recovered the lifeless body of the other child.

The children were taken to Trishal Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
