CHATTOGRAM, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) : Chattogram District Police have arrested four members of an organized fraud ring for allegedly issuing ‘fake’ police clearance certificates to citizens going abroad by creating a bogus website and QR code with forged signatures of government officials.
The arrestees are Md. Ashraf Ali Khan, 36, Md. Nishan, 36, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, 48 and Md. Abdur Rahman, 46.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md. Russell confirmed the matter today.
He said the four were arrested in separate raids conducted in different areas of Banshkhali and Chattogram city last night by a joint team of the District Special Branch (DSB) and District Detective Branch (DB).
Police said the gang took Tk 1.20 lakh from a person who urgently needed a police clearance certificate.
Later, they forged the signatures of government officials and prepared a fake police clearance certificate resembling an authentic one.
To make the fake certificate appear genuine, the gang also created a bogus QR code and website modeled after the police clearance system. Believing the certificate to be genuine, the victim submitted it to the concerned travel agency.
Later, the travel agency identified the certificate as fake during verification. The victim subsequently submitted a written complaint to the Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP).
Following the complaint, District DB launched an investigation on the instructions of SP. During the investigation, the gang members were identified through questioning of those concerned and analysis of their communications, financial transactions and technical data.
Later, police conducted raids in different areas of Banshkhali and Chattogram city. They arrested four people allegedly involved in preparing fake police clearance certificates, using bogus websites and QR codes.
ASP Md. Russell said legal action is being taken against those involved in the forgery of govt documents, misuse of technology and fraud.
He said if anyone else is found involved with the gang, they will also be identified and brought to justice.
