COX'S BAZAR, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 5.96 lakh yaba tablets, a foreign-made firearm and five rounds of ammunition in separate drives in Ukhiya and Ghumdhum border areas on Monday, arresting two suspected drug traffickers.

A patrol team of Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) under Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), acting on intelligence, intercepted two people carrying bags after they allegedly entered Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Jorakathi area of Ulubnia village around 5:10am, according to a BGB press release issued night.

The team arrested Nur Bashar, 22, and Abul Foyez, 25, as they tried to flee. Searching their bags, the BGB personnel recovered 350,000 yaba tablets packed in 35 cartons.

During preliminary questioning, the detainees reportedly admitted that they had collected the yaba from the Myanmar border to sell at higher prices, the release said.

In a separate operation, a patrol team of Ghumdhum BOP under Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) recovered 246,000 yaba tablets, a foreign-made firearm and five rounds of ammunition from the Nayapara border area.

Acting on intelligence, a special patrol team led by Major Md Mehedi Hasan Ashik conducted the operation around 12:15am, approximately 130 yards inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar No. 31. The drugs, firearm and ammunition were found abandoned.

Legal proceedings are underway over the seizures, the BGB said.
