15-day tree fair concludes in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - The 15-day Divisional Tree Fair-2026 concluded in Rajshahi today with a call to turn tree plantation into a social movement for environmental conservation.

The closing ceremony, themed "Let's adorn the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh first", was held at Nazrul Village in Rajshahi city.

Speaking as the chief guest, divisional commissioner Dr. A.N.M. Bazlur Rashid said tree plantation is essential for maintaining environmental balance and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. 

He urged people to make tree plantation a social movement to ensure a safe and liveable environment for future generations.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, who chaired the programme, said trees play a vital role in protecting the environment. 

He stressed the need to raise public awareness to further expand tree plantation and conservation activities.

Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ashik Sayeed, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Faruk Hossain, Conservator of Forests Muhammad Subedar Islam and Divisional Forest Officer Dr Jahangir Alam attended the ceremony as special guests.

Prizes were distributed among nursery owners for their achievements in various categories during the fair. Winners of a drawing competition organised for children and adolescents as part of the fair also received prizes from the chief guest.
