Tree plantation drive launched in Kachua

BAGERHAT, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bagerhat Zilla Parishad today launched a tree plantation campaign in Kachua upazila as part of the nationwide environmental protection initiative and a 250-million-tree plantation drive.

Bagerhat Zilla Parishad Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings along a road in the Masani area of Badhal Union and on the premises of a local educational institution on Monday afternoon.

Speaking at the inauguration, Zakir Hossain said tree plantation is essential to maintain environmental balance, address climate change risks and create a greener and more liveable environment for future generations.

He said the Zilla Parishad was committed to making the ongoing plantation drive a success under the government's direction.

He also said a family card distribution programme had been launched from Badhal Union of Kachua, with farmers in other unions of the upazila to be brought under the programme in phases.

Local BNP leaders, including former district Jubo Dal president Fakir Tariqul Islam, Kachua Upazila BNP President Sardar Zahid and other district and upazila leaders, attended the programme. Heads of educational institutions, teachers, students and local residents were also present.

Following the inauguration, various fruit, forest and medicinal saplings were planted along designated roads and on the grounds of educational institutions across the upazila.

According to Zilla Parishad sources, the tree plantation campaign will be gradually expanded to other upazilas of Bagerhat.
