BAGERHAT, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a truck on the Bagerhat-Khulna highway in Bagerhat Sadar upazila this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sheikh Shaharia Saikat 35, son of Shahidul Islam of Raghunathpur village in the upazila.

The accident occurred around 3:00 pm near Shrighat Fulbaria Bridge in Shatgambuj Union.

According to police and local sources, the motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming truck, leaving Saikat critically injured.

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rescued him and took him to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, Senior Station Officer of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defense Station said.

The truck driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Police seized both the truck and the motorcycle.

Officer-in-Charge of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station Md. Shamsul Arefin confirming the matter said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the absconding truck driver. 

Legal action has been initiated in connection with the incident.
