KHULNA, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 3,269 meritorious students from 46 schools in Khulna city were honoured at a day-long prize-giving ceremony organised by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro with support from Grameenphone.

The ceremony was held at the auditorium of St. Joseph's High School today, where students received awards in different categories in recognition of their academic and reading achievements.

Of the total awardees, 2,257 students from 30 schools received their awards on stage, while prizes for students from the remaining 16 schools were handed over to the respective school coordinators for distribution.

According to the organisers, 2,254 students received awards in the "Shubhechha" category, 923 in the "Abhinandan" category and 92 were recognised as "Best Readers". Among the recipients, 1,146 were boys and 2,123 were girls.

As part of this year's programme, Bishwo Shahitto Kendro introduced an online awareness course titled "Online Safety Fundamentals", also an "Online Safety Corner" was also set up at the venue to provide guidance to parents and teachers on ensuring children's safe internet use and promoting responsible digital behaviour.

Books were also distributed among the awardees aiming to encourage the students in book reading.

Among those present were Joint Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Project Director of the Mobile Library (3rd Revised) Project Md. Billal Hossain Khan, former Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University and trustee of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Prof. Muhammad Ali Naqi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource) Irufa Sultana, educationist and science organiser Prof. Farsim Mannan Mohammadi, Acting Deputy Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (Khulna Region) Md. Kamruzzaman, Grameenphone Regional Head (Khulna) Shanowar Hossain, Headmaster of St. Joseph's High School Alfred Ranjit Mondal, and former secretary and Executive Director of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Khondkar Md. Asaduzzaman.
