KHULNA, July 7, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today inspected a dilapidated wooden bridge over the Mayur River at the end of Mahatab Uddin Road in Ward No. 18, adjacent to the Sonadanga Bus Terminal, and stressed the need for its immediate replacement.

The administrator visited the site after a report highlighting the bridge's hazardous condition circulated on social media.

Describing the structure as unsafe for public use, Manju said construction of a new bridge at the site was essential to ease the suffering of commuters and ensure the safe movement of residents.

Replying to questions from journalists, he said the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) had earlier been requested to construct several bridges over the Mayur River and had already prepared designs for two of them. However, the bridge on Mahatab Uddin Road was not included in the plan.

He said KCC would request LGED to incorporate the bridge into its project, adding that the city corporation would take the initiative to construct the bridge if LGED was unable to do so.

The KCC administrator also directed the relevant officials to remove water hyacinths from the Mayur River without delay to improve water flow and the river's environment.

Among others, KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Waste Management Officer Engineer Md Anisur Rahman, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, former Ward No. 18 Councillor Hafizur Rahman Moni, Kazi Shafiqul Islam Shafi, Biplobur Rahman Kuddus, Humayun Kabir and local dignitaries were present during the inspection.
