MANIKGANJ, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two persons to death and fined Taka 50 thousand each for killing a youth in the district.

Judge of Manikganj District and Session Judge Court SKM Tofayel Hasan pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom in presence of the accused today.

The convicted are - Awabin Mia of Madhabpur upazila under Habiganj district and Sagar Munshi of Barisal Airport upazila in Barisal district.

The court sources said Sohan Mia, a ninth grade student of Mollapara village of Fordnagar area under Singair Upazila of Manikganj district is the son of Nurul Islam and Laily Begum couple. He used to drive an engine driven auto-rickshaw for helping the poor family during the Corona period. 

On July 19, 2021 Sohan Mia went out from his home with his bike, but he did not return.. 

Later his throat-slit body was recovered in Khasher char - Dhalla road

The mother of the deceased, Laily Begum filed a case with Singair Police Station accusing two persons.

After investigation, Singair Police Sub-Inspector Abdul Kalam submitted a charge sheet on July 30, 2021 to the court accusing all the three.

After a long hearing the court pronounced the verdict today.
