BAGERHAT, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Around 2,000 metres of illegal fishing nets were seized and destroyed during a mobile court operation in the Madhumati River in Atjuri area of Mollahat upazila on Monday.

Two people were also fined a total of Tk 25,000 for illegal fishing.

The operation led by Mollahat Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Sumona Irin was conducted from 10am to 5pm on Monday to prevent illegal fishing in the river.

During the drive, officials seized 40 China nets and four behundi nets measuring around 2,000 metres in total. The seized nets were later burned and destroyed.

The upazila administration said such drives would continue to protect the river's biodiversity, ensure fish breeding and curb illegal fishing.
