Fuel oil seized in Nilphamari, 7 fined

NILPHAMARI, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - The upazila administration seized around 4,505 litres of hoarded fuel oil during a raid in Syedpur upazila of the district.

The operation was carried out on Friday night at a warehouse near Rokeya LPG Gas Filling Station on the bypass road, where seven involved were detained and later fined by a mobile court.

Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Syedpur upazila Md Sabbir Hossain conducted the mobile court around 2:00 am, fining the detainees. 

The seized fuel was later measured and sold at a local filling station for Tk 493,407, which was deposited into the government treasury.

According to mobile court sources, the drive was conducted based on a tip-off with the support of police. A total of 3,917 litres of petrol, 338 litres of diesel and 250 litres of octane were recovered.

The owner of the filling station Rafiqul Islam was fined Taka 2 lakh with a six-month jail term in default, while six others were fined Taka 10 thousands each, with a three-day jail term in default.

Officials said strict action will be taken against those involved in hoarding fuel and creating artificial shortages.
