RAJSHAHI, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - A total of Taka 1.05 lakh was realized from the offenders as fine, during the drive of two separate mobile courts in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi, for hoarding oil in a bid to sell at higher prices and for cutting soil from the cropland.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Liaquat Salman led the mobile courts around 4.30 pm on Friday, according to upazila administration sources.

After finding evidence of hoarding oil and selling it at higher prices, a businessman was fined Taka 5,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

During the drive, 7 barrels of hoarded diesel were seized and sold to local farmers at fair prices, sources said.

In another drive at around 10:30 pm in the Palopara area of the upazila, a responsible individual was fined Taka 100,000 under the Balumahal and Soil Management Act, 2010.

After the drives, UNO Liaquat Salman said, “Creating artificial shortages to raise prices of essential goods and cutting soil from cropland are both crimes against public interest.”

The upazila administration said such mobile court drives will be conducted regularly for public interest.
