TANGAIL, April 3, 2026 (BSS) - Two children died being drowned in a pond in Ghatail upazila here.

The tragic incident took place last evening near the Darul Uloom Hifzul Quran Madrasa in the Ratna-Ata area under Dhalapara union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Tamanna, 11, daughter of Ashraf Ali of Sarabari Boro Medha area under Dhalapara union, and Nisa Khatun, 12, daughter of Munsur Ali of Ashra-Shalikha area under Mohishmara union of Madhupur upazila.

They all were students of the Ranta-Ata Darul Uloom Hifzul Quran Madrasa.

Eye witnesses said some madrasa students went together to play on the bank of a nearby pond in the last afternoon and accidentally fell into the pond. Hearing shouts locals intervened and carried out rescue activities and recovered two of them dead.

Other rescued children were given primary treatment at a local health centre.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station, Md. MaksudurAlam, confirmed the incident to BSS. 

“After completing legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to the families,” he added.
