RANGPUR, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime accused in the rape of a girl of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur from Bhipampur village under Panchbibi police station of Joypurhat district on Monday afternoon.

The arrestee was identified as Simeon Hasda Saikat, 20, son of Suren Hasda of village Bhimshahar Sonapur under Panchbibi police station of Joypurhat, a press release signed by RAB-13's Senior Assistant Director (Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami today.

Citing the statement of the complainant, the release said that the victim of the case met the arrested accused Simeon Hasda Saikat on Facebook in 2022 and they talked on mobile for a long time and developed a love relationship. 

Due to that, the accused established physical relations with the victim. 

In continuation of this, the arrested accused entered the victim's house and forcibly raped the victim by tempting her with marriage at 12.00 noon on January 14, 2026. 

Later, when the victim talked to the accused about marriage and contacted him, the accused again proposed to establish physical relations and threatened to spread several obscene videos on Facebook. 

The victim filed a rape case against the rapist at Pirganj police station of Rangpur on March 17, 2026.

On a tip-off, a joint operational team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-5 from Joypurhat in a raid arrested the main accused Simeon Hasda Saikat from Bhipampur village of Joypurhat district at 5.10 pm on Monday.

The arrested accused has been handed over to Pirganj police station in Rangpur for further legal action, the release added.
